About Us
TREL is an interdisciplinary research lab incubating the next generation of innovators and rocketeers at The University of Texas at Austin
At a Glance
TREL currently has over 150 members organized into 17 teams. Our teams are organized under 4 heads, 3 Chiefs, Project Manager, and Principal Investigator.
Our Mission
TREL is an interdisciplinary lab with its mission being to make people who make rockets. TREL utilizes the help of industry professionals, alumni, and professors to guide members behind the science of rockets and procedures of effective engineering. Our members use this guidance to construct TREL’s current projects: MK1 and MK2
Halcyon
Halcyon is a 30-foot tall liquid bi-propellant rocket. This rocket possesses three Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel tanks (COPVs). Halcyon is also guided by a Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system. Each hardware and software component of this rocket is designed and evaluated by TREL members under the guidance of industry experts and alumni.
Skunkworks
TREL Skunkworks is a team of engineers with various skills and experiences working on R&D projects to upgrade future versions of the Halcyon rocket. Skunkworks maximizes student impact by teaching skills like machining and programming to underclassmen while giving upperclassmen the chance to lead a team and tackle a hard problem.
